Thomas Clary, CPA, MBA, MS
Thomas Clary is a seasoned accounting veteran with over ten years of experience managing and providing services to small business. Tom is an active CPA and has earned an MBA from Sage Graduate School and a Master of Accountancy from Baruch College - The City University of New York.
As a Controller or Consultant, Tom has overseen the books for start-ups, not-for-profits, and large enterprises. He has set up accounting systems, payroll, bookkeeping, and financial reporting processes. His system implementations include small business software like Quickbooks and Xero, while his expertise extends to ERP systems for inventory and manufacturing companies. Tom has also played a lead role in selling several businesses and business lines, establishing lines of credit and term loans, managing payroll and retirement, and establishing policy and controls for AR, AP, and Sales Orders.
Tom's experience includes providing income tax services for partnerships, S corporations, trusts and estates, and individuals and tax planning for significant business transactions. He also has extensive experience in payroll and sales tax.
As an active board member of two Maryland not-for-profits, Tom loves to volunteer his skills for the community and worthy causes. He provides these organizations with thoughtful oversight and assists in determining the strategic direction of these organizations. He also enjoys simply helping where he is needed.
Tom lives in Pasadena, MD and has three children with his wife, Caitlain.
Sonal Dahiya, MBA
Sonal has over twenty years of experience in accounting & finance roles, within public accounting, retail, high-tech and the restaurant industry. He spent the first two years of his career as an auditor, with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and then moved into the start-up world during the high-tech boom of the late 1990’s, as a financial analyst.
Sonal was an internal auditor for an international Steakhouse, The Palm Restaurant Group and subsequently an internal auditor for Hecht’s Department Store, a division of May Department Stores, the second largest department store company in the U.S. Upon Macy’s Department Stores’ acquisition of May Department Stores, Sonal worked for a consulting firm in an internal audit expert capacity. The CEO of Palm Restaurant Group left for another venture and reached out to Sonal to be Controller at the concept stage of a martini bar, backed by $25M of equity, which successfully debuted in Plano, TX and expanded nationally.
Sonal spent five years (2009 – 2014) as the head of accounting and finance for Matchbox Food Group and was instrumental in maintaining financial stability and profitability for the company as it grew from 2 to 9 operating units and annual revenues of $13M to $50M.
Sonal earned a Bachelor’s in Biology from Tufts University (Medford, MA) and a Masters in Business Administration from Boston University (Boston, MA). Sonal grew up in Massachusetts; he is an avid Boston Celtics fan and enjoys playing basketball. He is passionate about food, loves to cook, taste new things and explore the country and world.
Giordano (Gio) DeFilippo, a Staff Accountant with Aspire, is committed to providing the highest quality of service for his clients. His background in Army Intelligence along with his service at Chick-fil-A have instilled a unique fusion of values which he brings to the table. He is a QuickBooks certified ProAdvisor, and holds an AS in Business Administration while finishing up his BA in Accounting and Finance. Outside of work Gio loves cooking Italian food (Go figure!), playing his guitar, and spending time with friends and family.
